Terms of service
These terms are the end user license agreement ("EULA") for the KnowBall mobile app and the website at knowball.us, operated by CXC Studio LLC ("KnowBall," "we," "us"). They are an agreement between you and us — not between you and Apple or Google. By downloading, opening, or playing KnowBall you accept them. If you don't agree, don't use the app.
Who can play
You must be at least 13 years old (16 in the EU and UK) to use KnowBall. By using the app you confirm that you meet that age requirement, that anything you tell us is accurate, and that you also accept the App Store or Google Play terms that govern your download.
Your account
- You can play as a guest without giving us an email. A guest account lives on your device only. If you lose or reset the device, that progress is gone and we can't recover it. Save your progress with an email, Apple, or Google sign-in if you want it to survive.
- Your handle, favorite team, and equipped cosmetics are public. They appear on leaderboards, on friends' screens, and on anything you share.
- One account per person. You're responsible for what happens on your account and for keeping your sign-in method to yourself.
- You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account. See the privacy policy for what that removes.
Your license to use KnowBall
We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use KnowBall on any Apple device that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Usage Rules in Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions, or on your Android devices as permitted by Google Play. That license is for your own non-commercial entertainment. You may not:
- copy, modify, translate, reverse-engineer, decompile, or make derivative works of the app, except where the law says we can't stop you;
- rent, lease, sell, sublicense, or redistribute the app or your account;
- use bots, scripts, modified clients, emulators, packet interception, or any other tool to automate play, read answers, or manipulate scores, coins, or leaderboards;
- scrape our questions, player data, artwork, or leaderboards, or use them to train a model or build a competing product;
- probe, overload, or interfere with our servers, or try to reach parts of the service you weren't given access to.
Ball Plus subscription
KnowBall is free to play. The Daily is always free — no ads, no paid hints, no paywall, ever. Ball Plus is an optional paid upgrade that unlocks unlimited plays in the side modes, removes ads, raises your XP and Ball Coin earn rate, and adds exclusive cosmetics and premium stats.
Plans, length, and price
- Ball Plus Monthly — auto-renewing, one month per period, $4.99 USD per month.
- Ball Plus Yearly — auto-renewing, one year per period, $39.99 USD per year.
- Ball Plus Lifetime — a one-time purchase we offer to some players. It does not auto-renew and nothing in this section about renewal applies to it.
Prices are in US dollars and may differ in your country. The price shown on the purchase screen at the moment you buy is the price that applies, in your local currency, including any tax the store collects.
Automatic renewal
- A Ball Plus subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the period ends.
- Your Apple ID or Google account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the current period ends, at the then-current price for the plan.
- Manage or cancel your subscription in your store account settings — on iOS, Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. We can't cancel it for you. Deleting the app does not cancel it.
- If you cancel, Ball Plus stays active until the end of the period you already paid for. It does not renew after that.
- If the price changes, the store tells you in advance and asks you to agree before the new price is charged. If you don't agree, the subscription ends at the close of the current period.
- If we offer a free trial or introductory price, any unused part of it is forfeited when you buy a subscription, as the App Store requires.
- Your purchase is tied to the store account that made it. Use Restore on the Ball Plus screen to bring it back on a new device.
Ball Coins and virtual items
Ball Coins are the in-game currency. You earn them by playing, and you can also buy coin packs. Cosmetics — banners, frames, avatars, titles, share cards — are in-game items. For all of it:
- You get a limited license to use them inside KnowBall. You do not own them, and you acquire no property right in them.
- They have no cash value. They can't be redeemed for money, transferred, sold, gifted, or traded, inside or outside the app.
- Purchases of coins are final and non-refundable except where the law or the store's own policy says otherwise.
- We may change earn rates, daily caps, prices, and what any item costs or does, as we balance the game. We'll avoid retroactively taking away something you paid for.
- Unspent coins and unused items are forfeited if you delete your account, if we close it for a breach of these terms, or if we discontinue the service.
Rewarded ads
KnowBall shows optional rewarded video ads. You choose to watch one in exchange for something — an extra run, a streak save. There are no forced ads, no banners, and never any ads during the Daily. Ball Plus removes them entirely. Advertisers, not us, are responsible for what an ad says.
Refunds
Apple and Google process every payment, so they handle every refund. We can't issue one. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com for App Store purchases, or through Google Play for Android. If you think something went wrong on our side, email support@knowball.us and we'll help you sort it out with the store.
Fair play
KnowBall is a competition, and leaderboards only mean something if they're honest. Don't cheat, don't use multiple accounts to farm rewards or inflate your rank, don't exploit a bug instead of reporting it, and don't harass other players or use an offensive handle. If we reasonably believe an account is cheating or abusive, we may reset its stats, remove it from leaderboards, revoke coins or items obtained unfairly, suspend it, or close it.
Your content
You keep whatever rights you have in the handle, display name, and feedback you submit. You give us a worldwide, royalty-free license to display that content where the feature calls for it — leaderboards, friend lists, party sessions, share cards — and to use feedback to improve the app, with no obligation to you. Don't submit anything unlawful, hateful, impersonating, or that infringes someone else's rights.
Our content, and sports names
The KnowBall name, logo, artwork, questions, puzzle design, code, and copy belong to CXC Studio LLC and are protected by intellectual-property law. Everything not expressly granted to you above is reserved.
KnowBall is an independent trivia game. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the NBA, the NFL, MLB, any of their teams, or any player or players' association. Team names, player names, and statistics appear only to identify real people and teams as the subject of trivia questions — a factual, descriptive use. All such marks belong to their respective owners.
The service will change
We add modes, retire modes, rebalance scoring, fix questions, and change how things look. We may suspend or discontinue any part of KnowBall, including the whole app. Facts change too: a puzzle can be wrong, and we'll correct it when we find out. We don't promise the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available in every country.
Suspension and termination
You may stop using KnowBall at any time and delete your account from Settings. We may suspend or close your account if you breach these terms, if we're required to by law, or if keeping it open would harm other players or the service. If we close your account for a breach, unused coins, items, and any remaining subscription time are forfeited without refund. Sections that by their nature should survive — licenses you granted us, disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity, and governing law — survive termination.
No warranty
KnowBall is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows. Some jurisdictions don't allow this exclusion, so parts of it may not apply to you, and nothing here affects the statutory consumer rights you have where you live.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, CXC Studio LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, progress, coins, items, or profits, arising from your use of or inability to use KnowBall. Our total liability for any claim relating to KnowBall is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim or fifty US dollars. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited under applicable law.
Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold CXC Studio LLC harmless from any claim, loss, or expense — including reasonable legal fees — that arises from your breach of these terms, your misuse of KnowBall, or your violation of someone else's rights.
Legal compliance
You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not listed on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. You agree to comply with all applicable export laws when using KnowBall.
Apple
These terms apply to your use of KnowBall on Apple devices, and the following is required by Apple:
- This agreement is between you and CXC Studio LLC only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for KnowBall or its content.
- Maintenance and support for KnowBall is our responsibility alone. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support.
- If KnowBall fails to conform to any warranty that applies, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation of any kind, and any other claim, loss, liability, damage, cost, or expense attributable to a failure to conform to a warranty is our responsibility.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claim you or a third party have relating to KnowBall — including product liability claims, any claim that the app fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection or similar law — and for any third-party claim that KnowBall infringes that party's intellectual property rights.
- You must comply with any applicable third-party terms of agreement when using KnowBall.
- Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and upon your acceptance Apple has the right — and is deemed to have accepted the right — to enforce these terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which CXC Studio LLC is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be handled by the courts located there, unless the consumer law where you live gives you the right to bring it somewhere else.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the product matures. The "last updated" date above reflects the most recent change. If a change materially affects your rights, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use KnowBall after a change means you accept the updated terms.
